Data Analysis and Capacity Management at Scania – Procurement / TRATON Group

In Scania Procurement, ensuring supplier capacity aligns with production demand is critical for operational efficiency and risk management. To support data-driven decision-making, initiatives were undertaken to collect, consolidate, and analyze supplier capacity data across the TRATON network, leveraging Power BI and Excel to improve visibility, collaboration, and planning accuracy.

Challenge

Limit Supplier Capacity

Scania Procurement faced challenges in monitoring supplier capacity across the TRATON network. Manual and fragmented reporting made it difficult to compare demand against available capacity, identify potential bottlenecks, and proactively manage suppliers at risk of under-delivery.

Solution

Data Integration and BI Reporting

A technical approach was implemented to consolidate supplier data, improve analysis, and enable proactive capacity management:

Implementation & Execution

  • Data Collection & Consolidation: Capacity data from external suppliers was gathered and structured in Excel, standardizing inputs across multiple TRATON brands.

  • Power BI Dashboard Development: Interactive dashboards were created to monitor demand versus capacity, with visualizations highlighting over- or under-capacity scenarios.

  • Analysis & Investigation: Suppliers unable to meet capacity were flagged, enabling detailed investigation of constraints and actionable insights.

  • Cross-Brand Process Optimization: Standardized data collection and reporting processes across TRATON brands to improve efficiency, data quality, and collaboration.

Result

Enhanced Data-Driven Procurement
  • Provided real-time visibility of supplier capacity relative to demand

  • Enabled proactive identification of supply risks and mitigation planning

  • Reduced manual reporting effort and improved data consistency

  • Strengthened collaboration and standardized processes across multiple brands

Future Outlook

Optimizing Supplier Management Through Data

By enabling transparent monitoring of demand versus capacity, Scania enhanced supplier management, operational efficiency, and risk mitigation across the TRATON network.
